Christmas 2024 - Kent

Unlike friends from Cymru, or Yorkshire, I don't feel a huge connection to the place of my birth, Kent.  However, on Boxing Day I had a run along the route, or an old, familiar childhood walk. Going far further than I meant to, enjoying the sight of familiar trees and fields.

I was able to appreciate the quiet beauty of the place, the bricks and tile vernacular building style...

...and mourned the changes, so many orchard and hop fields gone.

On my return to my parents' house, the house where I was born, I was greeted by roses still in bloom (as am I).

Return to Ronda

The last few months have been a bit rough on the health front, so it’s been a delight to be on my travels again. First stop was glorious Ronda, staying in a hotel with it’s own cinema. A fantastic pizza was had… ….Christmas lights were admired… …a sunset revelled in… …but Ronda is all about the gorge (and bullfighting, Hemlingway and Orson Welles)… …and the amazing bridges. And a very poetic carpark.

Corbigny past and present

ItΛ‹s still too damn hot, but I managed a trip out to Corbigny, where there is a lovely toy shop… …interesting mediaeval bits and pieces… …fun shop signs… …a great place to drink coffee and watch the world go by… …suitably mad French cars… …and baffling street furniture… …and a chilling reminder that not that long ago, people like you and me were taken away and annihilated. Remember them, never forget, never again.

Christmas Memories πŸŽ„

I didn’t manage to find a Christmas decoration I liked everywhere I travelled, but I have a little something from San Francisco… …New Mexico… …Reading… …Malaysia… …New Orleans… …St Louis… …Brooklyn… …Austria… …and a little piggie from Thailand, who needs a bit of extra string before I can add him to the tree. Lovely memories of all the kind people who looked after me so well. I hope to see you all again soon, and I wonder what 2025 will bring?
