Denver - March 2024

I have been suffering with a very bad cold, and feeling like death warmed up. Not ideal touristing. However, I went into central Denver today.

The city was one of the successes of the ‘City Beautiful’ movement in the early 20thC, so has lots of neoclassical facades, and open spaces.

I liked this snooty lion…

…this splendid salmon…

…the mile high marker…

…and splendid ironwork.

Elsewhere…

…hints of the old city…

…could be seen…

…peeking out by the new.

Here’s a lovely telephone exchange…

…and an old school.

This Women’s History Centre had a delightful…

…matching bug house.

My main feeling was that of a city at ease with itself…

…with a smile…

…and a sense of the ridiculous.

Return to Ronda

The last few months have been a bit rough on the health front, so it’s been a delight to be on my travels again. First stop was glorious Ronda, staying in a hotel with it’s own cinema. A fantastic pizza was had… ….Christmas lights were admired… …a sunset revelled in… …but Ronda is all about the gorge (and bullfighting, Hemlingway and Orson Welles)… …and the amazing bridges. And a very poetic carpark.

Corbigny past and present

ItΛ‹s still too damn hot, but I managed a trip out to Corbigny, where there is a lovely toy shop… …interesting mediaeval bits and pieces… …fun shop signs… …a great place to drink coffee and watch the world go by… …suitably mad French cars… …and baffling street furniture… …and a chilling reminder that not that long ago, people like you and me were taken away and annihilated. Remember them, never forget, never again.

Christmas Memories πŸŽ„

I didn’t manage to find a Christmas decoration I liked everywhere I travelled, but I have a little something from San Francisco… …New Mexico… …Reading… …Malaysia… …New Orleans… …St Louis… …Brooklyn… …Austria… …and a little piggie from Thailand, who needs a bit of extra string before I can add him to the tree. Lovely memories of all the kind people who looked after me so well. I hope to see you all again soon, and I wonder what 2025 will bring?
