Mount Vision and Port Reyes

Today we left a foggy San Francisco…

…and headed inland to walk on Mount Vision, on the Inverness Ridge.

We more or less…

…had the place to ourselves…

…give or take the massive buzzards.

Then into Port Reyes, where the lighthouse was closed, the wind was strong…

…and the fences none too sturdy.

Then lunch, and if there are any oysters in the bay…

…it’s not through want of trying!

Abbaye Sainte-Marie-de-la-Pierre-qui-Vire

Deep in the woods… …you can find a magnificent… …Benedictine Abbey, which you may have heard of, as they make very good cheese. Although the place dates from the last century, there is an atmosphere of deep calm and tranquility. Deeper into the woods… …there is a hidden delight… …a little glade… …with a statue of the Virgin Mary. It is an extraordinary place.

Another blissful day in San Francisco

Yesterday I had a wander round the de Young Museum, catching a wonderful Irving Penn exhibition… …lovely art… …interesting dresses… …and fab cake. The Japanese Tea Garden was… …in all its Spring beauty. Absolutely lovely. We kept an eye out for coyotes… …went for a walk on Ocean Beach… …and had a meal out… …to keep Peter’s birthday going another day.

Église st Jean Baptiste - Moulins-Engilbert

For a small, sleepy place…Moulins-Engilbert… …has a very large church. It is… …rather… …lovely… …with lots to see… …beautiful… …carving… …and lovely old wooden pews. And as well… …as these lovely faces… …there are… …some glorious statues in the crypt. However, what most spoke to me was the war memorial… …including my hostˋs grandfather.
