A volcano and Atomic City

Yesterday we went for a drive up to Valles Caldera Natural Reserve, where we could stand in a plateau inside a (hopefully extinct) volcano.

I am running out of superlatives, but a need to save some…

…for Huw’s driving…

…as he successfully negotiated his way up…

…and just as importantly, down, some very twisty mountain roads.

Our way home took us through, Los Alamos, Atomic City…

…which still has a nuclear research facility, necessitating ID checks as you enter the town.

It must be a strange place to live, as even now, it’s very isolated, up on ‘the hill’.

Return to Ronda

The last few months have been a bit rough on the health front, so it’s been a delight to be on my travels again. First stop was glorious Ronda, staying in a hotel with it’s own cinema. A fantastic pizza was had… ….Christmas lights were admired… …a sunset revelled in… …but Ronda is all about the gorge (and bullfighting, Hemlingway and Orson Welles)… …and the amazing bridges. And a very poetic carpark.

Corbigny past and present

Itˋs still too damn hot, but I managed a trip out to Corbigny, where there is a lovely toy shop… …interesting mediaeval bits and pieces… …fun shop signs… …a great place to drink coffee and watch the world go by… …suitably mad French cars… …and baffling street furniture… …and a chilling reminder that not that long ago, people like you and me were taken away and annihilated. Remember them, never forget, never again.

Austria at last

In a fit of madness… …I agreed to accompany my Aged Mother on a coach trip to Austria. After two days on the coach… …we have finally arrived <phew>.
