Jim  Thompson was an American designer…


…who after a distinguished military service in WWII…


…made his home in Thailand.


(This is a home built for any spirts displaced when the house was built)

He more or less…


…single handedly rebuilt the Thai silk industry…


…and after he disappeared in mysterious circumstances in the late 1960s…


…his house became a museum…

…housing his collection…


…of South East Asia art.

The house is stunning, but what moved me is that many of the pieces he collected are broken…


…he clearly saw the beauty..


…in the imperfection.


As I went round…


…I thought about…


…how much…


…I’d have liked to meet him.

Return to Ronda

  The last few months have been a bit rough on the health front, so it’s been a delight to be on my travels again. First stop was glorious Ronda, staying in a hotel with it’s own cinema. A fantastic pizza was had… ….Christmas lights were admired… …a sunset revelled in… …but Ronda is all about the gorge (and bullfighting, Hemlingway and Orson Welles)… …and the amazing bridges. Corbigny past and present

  Itˋs still too damn hot, but I managed a trip out to Corbigny, where there is a lovely toy shop… …interesting mediaeval bits and pieces… …fun shop signs… …a great place to drink coffee and watch the world go by… …suitably mad French cars… …and baffling street furniture… …and a chilling reminder that not that long ago, people like you and me were taken away and annihilated. Remember them, never forget, never again.

Christmas Memories 🎄

  I didn’t manage to find a Christmas decoration I liked everywhere I travelled, but I have a little something from San Francisco… …New Mexico… …Reading… …Malaysia… …New Orleans… …St Louis… …Brooklyn… …Austria… …and a little piggie from Thailand, who needs a bit of extra string before I can add him to the tree. Lovely memories of all the kind people who looked after me so well. I hope to see you all again soon, and I wonder what 2025 will bring?
