The Woodplace

Yesterday I overcame a decades long aversion to crafts and took part in a woodwork session with my friend Yu Leng and her daughter.

They let us loose in the workshop…

…with big saws…

….nail guns…

…big cutting thingie…

…and my bête noir…glue.

We ended up with some nice little candle holders…

…and the same number of fingers as we started with, which is a win in my book.

Abbaye Sainte-Marie-de-la-Pierre-qui-Vire

Deep in the woods… …you can find a magnificent… …Benedictine Abbey, which you may have heard of, as they make very good cheese. Although the place dates from the last century, there is an atmosphere of deep calm and tranquility. Deeper into the woods… …there is a hidden delight… …a little glade… …with a statue of the Virgin Mary. It is an extraordinary place.

Another blissful day in San Francisco

Yesterday I had a wander round the de Young Museum, catching a wonderful Irving Penn exhibition… …lovely art… …interesting dresses… …and fab cake. The Japanese Tea Garden was… …in all its Spring beauty. Absolutely lovely. We kept an eye out for coyotes… …went for a walk on Ocean Beach… …and had a meal out… …to keep Peter’s birthday going another day.

Église st Jean Baptiste - Moulins-Engilbert

For a small, sleepy place…Moulins-Engilbert…  …has a very large church. It is… …rather… …lovely… …with lots to see… …beautiful… …carving… …and lovely old wooden pews. And as well… …as these lovely faces… …there are… …some glorious statues in the crypt. However, what most spoke to me was the war memorial… …including my hostˋs grandfather.
